A large scale production of textiles spread out in the Aš region in the 18th century and as the industrial revolution took off, the production volume greatly increased. This development was not changed by the circumstances that occurred after World War II. Many people think that textile production in the Aš region ended after the displacement of the German population. It is not as people believe. The factories were nationalized or they were merged and many new people from the centre of the country moved to the border area and life carried on until the 1990s when the textile factories could not survive after the events of 1989.

Today the Aš Museum is the only institution that reminds us of the rich history of textile production in the Aš Region. The museum has been collecting evidence of textile production in the region since the 1970s. The museum´s main goal is to acquire, preserve and exhibit objects from all production areas ... different types of machines (spinning machine, knitting machines, looms, mangles) or products (lace, curtains or clothing ... aprons "tosťácké” pants, uniforms and ... gloves, lots of gloves ).

Even though textile production has largely disappeared in the region, the main aim of the textile museum in Aš is to maintain awareness and knowledge of the production of textiles for future generations.
